The Eiffel tower was designed by renowned French designer Gustav Eiffel after whom it was named. The tower is the tallest structure in Paris and was also the tallest structure in the world until the Empire State was built. The Tower is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and has approximately 6 million visitors every year.
The Tower reaches 325m at its top and has one of the world’s tallest observation decks. The tower is made of steel and weighs over 7300 tons. It was built in 2 years in the late 19th century. The tower has been used for radio transmission since 1900.
Visitors to the tower can travel to the first and second level decks by means of an elevator or stairs. Visitors can also visit the third deck and climb a set of about 15 stairs to reach the observation deck which offers breathtaking view of the city of Paris and its surroundings. There are high powered binoculars in the deck which can be used by tourists.
The structure was built as an entrance to the world fair that was conducted in Paris after the French Revolution. The Tower has also been a favorite location among Hollywood movie producers and has had its share of visitors from the cast and crew of various productions. Gustav honored the French Scientists and engineers by painting their name on the Tower. Restaurants are present inside the tower from where one can have a pleasant lunch or dinner overlooking the beautiful city of Paris.
The tower is located almost in the heart of Paris and can easily be accessed from any part of the city. As a global landmark the Eiffel Tower attracts more visitors than any other place in Paris and its surroundings and stands in a majestic manner in Paris. The Eiffel Tower is decorated specially during the last week of the year to welcome the New Year and it is a crowd puller standing tall in the romantic city of Paris.
