Lying on the banks of the Yamuna River in the Mughal capital Agra, The Taj Mahal is known as an architectural wonder and is accepted as a masterpiece world over.
The Taj Mahal was constructed purely on marble that stands on a symmetrical plinth. It houses the tombs of Mumtaz Mahal and Emperor Shah Jehan who built this masterpiece for the former as a token of love. The Taj Mahal has been given the status of a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.
One of the most spectacular things in the Taj Mahal is the marble dome that is constructed over the tombs. The Main dome is surrounded by 4 towers which are also made of marble and are about 40m tall. The exterior design of the Taj Mahal also portrays one of the best Mughal architectures that can be found in the country.
